NOVALIS spent 2003 in Europe getting mileage in International Competition .Emiel Hendrix was instrumental is getting NOVALIS to Europe and he arranged for Marc Howtzager to show him . After being in the ribbons 3 out of 4 classes in Linz at the International Show , NOVALIS and Marc were featured in The Dutch Horse Paper . There were photos of NOVALIS , Jus de Pomme and Haciende .Marc competed with NOVALIS in Holland and Germany but after a serious outbreak of "chicken virus " the borders were closed and all horse shows in Holland were cancelled .

It was then that Emiel felt NOVALIS should go to Germany with Marcus Beerbaum .Marcus and NOVALIS competed up to the 1.5 m International classes and had placing's including a 4th out of 95 entries .Marcus' plans were to go to Florida and we felt at this time it would be nice to have NOVALIS return to North America .We felt he should be more accessible to some of his Canadian friends .John Pearce of Forrest View Farms in Stouffville ,ON will be showing NOVALIS this year . John has developed and shown Harry Potter and Air Jordan to Grand Prix level .Both horses have been sold and Harry Potter is currently being shown by Peter Wylde in Europe and Air Jordan to Jan Tops in Holland .Jan hopes Air Jordan will help him qualify for the next Olympics .John is anxious to start showing NOVALIS as he feels he is very much like Harry Potter .Both Harry Potter and NOVALIS are by Jus de Pomme .NOVALIS will be 2 months in quarantine at Tineke Hogendoorn's in Baden , ON.

To date reports of NOVALIS offspring have been excellent . Hayden , owned by Marlene Loraas and shown by Rodney Tulloch have won Championships as well as 5 firsts at Spruce Meadows in the Low Jumpers .Special Attraction owned by Kathie Stell and ridden by her 13 year old daughter , Bonnie , won Championships in Hunter , Jumper and Equitation .Nabob owned and ridden by Wayne Staudt of BC will be ready to show this year . Wayne says Nabob is a "keeper". Peter Gray who has represented Canada Internationally in Three Day Event has the NOVALIS son , Dutch . Peter also encouraged one of his students to buy a NOVALIS youngster .Scott McKay on Ontario sold both of these horses but he also kept the big bay gelding , Hogan , for himself . We will be looking for them in the show ring this spring .Dr . Don Palus of California bought Tarrick from Becky Gordon in MB. and he thinks Tarrick is the best horse he has ever had .Don will start him in the jumpers but has plans for Richard Spooner to show him at higher levels .Tempo , now living at the Yunoyama Riding Club in Japan will also be ready to show this year .

We would like to say thank you to everyone who has put their confidence in NOVALIS and we wish them all the best of luck with their youngsters as well as to those expecting foals this spring . We hope to get and post all news in the upcoming season .

Novalis with Laura Kraut at the Spruce Meadows National, June 2002

After enjoying the Florida sun NOVALIS headed to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and Laura headed for Europe to compete with 4 of her other horses. The classes in Florida were very large but NOVALIS and Laura were in the top ribbons in most of his classes.

Kentucky Show Park was their next show.  Although Jonathon had never ridden NOVALIS he was about to show him.  Now we can all imagine that Jonathon is very tall and NOVALIS is not the tallest horse but it was not a problem.  Jonathon said he was wonderful and they were 5th in the class.

When Laura arrived in Calgary for the Spruce Meadows National after two weeks of showing in Europe, she started NOVALIS in the 1.30 meter class.  Laura and NOVALIS showed along with 50 other horses. She said she was efficient and NOVALIS was super and they ended up second, only to be beaten by Jonathon! On Wednesday there were 57 entries in the class and once again Laura and NOVALIS were second.  We are thrilled with the results!

Laura and NOVALIS next competed at the Rocky Mountain Classic Horse Show in Calgary, AB and were second in the Cyberfoal 1.3m class.  At the Spruce Meadows Canada One/North American shows their results were consistent winning 3rd in the Cargill 1.3m jumper, 5th in the Trimac 1.4m jumper, 3rd in the Trimac 1.40 jumper and then 3rd in the Atco Gas1.4m jumper!

Much thanks to Laura, Jonathan and Marian (NOVALIS’ caretaker and president of his fan club) for all their successes!

NOVALIS is now on his way to Cincinnati, Traders Point then the Spruce Meadows Masters.
